Christmas is a very important holiday for us Cazee’s! The whole Advent Season feels magical. Probably because it is! The mysteries of our Beloved Gospel are just too wonderful to wrap our minds around but we love spending the month meditating and celebrating this very special and dear season. So for this date night we did just that!
Good Eats (Camaraderie)
Matt and I have spent the last five years experimenting different meals to turn into our traditional family Christmas meal and we think we finally found the one that we will be making for years to come! We want a meal that, when enjoyed, we will say, “this is Christmas”. With the first bite we knew we had found it! We made Giada De Laurentiis’ Stracotto (Pot Roast) with Porcini Mushrooms. Delicious!!! The sauce for sure made this meal! We cooked our meat a little too long and didn’t actually have a five pound boneless beef chuck that she called for. Instead, we used a smaller roast we already had in the freezer. But it still was so yummy. As a side we made mashed potatoes and poured the sauce from the meat on that as well. Have I said yet that this sauce was so yummy? It will be hard to reserve this meal for just one time of year, I’m not sure that we can do it. Thank you Giada!
We set our table with some very pretty and special Christmas decor ($1 section at Target) just to set the mood. Side note: Lily has been accompanying us during the dinner portion of our date nights the last few date nights. Her bed time is 7 so that still gives us plenty of time to just hang out the two of us after she heads to bed! Second side note: If you are looking for a Christmas breakfast meal we love Giada’s Panettone French Toast, this has been our go-to Christmas breakfast for the last few Christmas mornings.
Good Plan (Initiative)
We spent the evening reflecting over our family Advent Calendar, reading our Peace Advent devotional, and making a massive amount of cookies for our family members. We went with homemade Christmas Holly, Sugar Cookies, and (Matt’s favorite) Peanut Butter Blossoms.
Good Conversation (Depth)
1. Which advent activity did you enjoy the most?
Both: We both loved the Jolly Days at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum! We had a wonderful time as family and were able to spend some time with dear friends and their kiddos!
2. What is your favorite Christmas cookie?
Britt: Christmas holly, my siblings and I would eat a ton of these as a kid and would take Christmas pictures with green teeth!
Matt: Christmas Holly, he would eat endless amounts as a kid, and of course peanut butter blossoms!
